In the Department for

meteorology

• the activities are carried out that refer to:

• organization and management of entire meteorological, climatological and agrometeorological measurements and observations, processing, critical control, archiving, publishing and analysis of the results of performed measurements and observations; monitoring of the components of the climate system and application of the results in science and economy.




In the frames of the Department of meteorology there are:

• 1. Division of meteorological observations and measurements,

• 2. Division of climatology,

• 3. Division of agrometeorology

Division

for meteorological observations and measurements carries out activities that refer to:

• organization and elaboration of development, professionally operational programmes and programmes on organization of meteorological measurements and observations as well as meteorological measurements at aerological station;

• elaboration of instructions and methods of measurements and observations according to the resolutions and recommendations of WMO;

• participation in domestic and international projects in the field of meteorology and standardization of measurements;

• cooperation with institutions competent for standardization and metrology;

• organization of special measurements for research purposes;

• organization and performing of administrative, professional and legal activities in the Division;

• research of methods of rationalization and optimization of meteorological observing system and application of the results in various fields of science and economy;

• organization and development of cooperation with stakeholders for performing of specific meteorological measurements;

• organization and management of the work at the meteorological stations related to all synoptic, meteorological, climatolocical, agrometeorological, phenological, mezzo-meteorological measurements as well as monitoring of the air and precipitation radioactivity and other special measurements;

• training and professional education of the observers, as well as care for conducting unique methodological and professional instructions for the work at the meteorological stations;

• performing the meteorological measurements and observations, processing of data, coding of real time data and delivery of entire documentation for further processing;

• elaboration of working plans and carrying out WMO plans related to the meteorological station network;

• following the new methods of measurements and innovations in instruments production;

• organization and work of the automatic meteorological measurement monitoring;

• carrying out operational, professional and technical works in the meteorological station network;

• carrying out laboratory controls, calibrations and observations of the meteorological instruments and equipment.

Division

for climatology carries out activities related to:

• elaboration of methods for basic and higher processing of the data and critical control of the results of executed measurements and observations in the meteorological observing system in the Republic of Macedonia;

• analyzing of the results of executed measurements and observations and production of weather and climate information;

• critical analysis and data processing of special measurements and observations and correlation research in comparison with other weather and climate parameters;

• establishment and maintenance of meteorological documents archive of the original meteorological data and processing of the results from the meteorological measurement system in the Republic;

• analysis of Macedonian climate and definition of factors that impact the elements of the climate system;

• development of the methods of evaluation and prediction of local changes and variation of climate;

• elaboration of climate forecasts;

• research of meso-climate of urban areas including interactions between air pollution and climate;

• participation in domestic and international projects in the field of meteorology and climatology;

• development of methods of evaluation of climate change impact on various social and economy sectors, human health and environmental components;

• application of meteorological information and knowledge, elaborations of studies for climate in energy, energy industry, water economy, construction, traffic, urban planning, medicine, tourism, environmental protection;

• working out publishing materials for monthly and annual meteorological-climatological reports;

• elaboration of climate maps of Republic of Macedonia in GIS technology;

• enforcement of WMO plans and programmes in the field of climatology;

Division

for agrometeorology carries out activities related to:

• elaboration of programmes, studies, analyses, decade, monthly, seasonal and annual reports and information on meteorological impact on agricultural crops;

• preparation of working instructions in the field of agrometeorology;

• processing and control of decade meteorological and agrometeorological data from meteorological observing system with graphic, tabular, shematic and cartographic presentation and recording;

• working outof materials for publishing monthly agrometeorological bulletin, agrometeorological annual report, phonological annual report and annual on soil temperature;

• agroclimatic classification of agricultural crops;

• working out agroclimatic atlas with GIS application for some agriculture crops;

• working out agrometeorological forecasts on occurrence of natural disasters, warnings, advices and recommendations for their mitigation;

• working out agrometeorological forecasts and information on diseases caused by pests attacking cultivated plants and forecast on yield;

• usage of climate forecasts for the necessities of agriculture;

• working out phonological forecasts and forest fire forecasts;

• monitoring and analysis of phonological development of plants according to the programme of phonological observations at phonological stations;

• participation in the international programme of phonological gardens;

• measurements, monitoring and analysis of soil humidity data;

• usage of irrigation models;

• monitoring pollution impact on flora;

• estimation of climate change impact on agriculture;

• participation in domestic and international projects in the field of agrometeorology;

• cooperation with competent scientific institutions, agricultural organizations and associations in order to perform the tasks of the programme successfully;

• cooperation with stockholders for performing specific agrometeorological measurements and observations.

Tasks

As a professional organizational unit, the Division performs:

• control, processing and archiving of meteorological and agrometeorological data.

• climate investigation in urban environment, including interactive relations between polluted atmosphere and climate in towns.

• application of meteorological information and knowledge on climate in the field of water economy, agriculture, forestry, traffic, urbanism, construction, space arrangement, tourism, environmental protection and human health protection.

• investigation of energetic potential from the sun radiation and wind.

• phenological observations, measurements and analyses of agricultural crops.

• agrometeorological operative-informative, methodological and investigative activities.

• working out appropriate information and forecasts on impacts of weather and climate upon agricultural production, at adverse weather conditions (frost, drought and others) etc.
